Statement
I paint what stays after the weather has moved on: a field an hour after rain, the warm light leaving the hillside, the stillness of a pond when I am the first to arrive there.
Each painting starts outdoors, small and fast, and ends in the studio, slow. The studio paintings are not copies of the sketches; they are what I remember of the place when the sketch is no longer in front of me.
I want a painting to be looked at the way a landscape is — not all at once, but by walking into it.
